When I was in the Marine Corps back in the 60s, I met a man named Joe Buffkin. We became close friends, and I was able to spend a lot of time with his family in Willow Springs, North Carolina. Joe’s and his wife’s (Ann) families treated me like part of their families, and the time spent with them are some of the happiest memories of my youth. They named their second son after me (Danny Ray), and my son was named David Joseph after Joe. I’ve kept in touch with the Buffkins over the years, and attended Joe’s funeral 3 years ago. Recently, Ann moved to an assisted living facility in Clayton, North Carolina, and Cathy and I went to visit her just last week.

I will never forget the love and friendship I was shown by the Buffkin family all those years ago, and Cathy and I decided to try and give some of it back to them. So, on this coming Friday afternoon (September 26th) from 3 to 4 PM, we will be doing a show at the Kingswood Preserve Assisted Living facility for Ann and in memory of my friend Joe.
